The Delhi Police North District team has successfully cracked a major armed robbery case where ₹60 lakh was looted in broad daylight. The incident took place earlier in January near Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in North Delhi. Officials have arrested seven individuals involved in this crime, revealing that an insider employee played a key role in tipping off the gang regarding the cash movement.
How did the robbery take place and who is the insider?
The robbery happened on January 7 around 1:45 PM when the complainant, Sandeep Swami, was carrying cash. He was stopped at gunpoint near Subhadra Colony and robbed. The police investigation revealed that an employee named Shiva, who worked with the complainant at a mobile accessories firm, was the main informer. He provided real-time details about the cash location to his accomplices, including Karnail Singh and Rajeev, to execute the plan perfectly.
What has the police recovered so far?
After scanning over 100 CCTV cameras and analyzing call records, the team led by DCP Raja Banthia tracked down the suspects. The police have recovered ₹28.12 lakh in cash from the accused so far. Additionally, the car and scooter used during the commission of the crime have been seized. The accused have been booked under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for armed robbery.
Police action prevented another big crime
During the interrogation, a shocking detail came to light regarding the gang’s future plans. The group was already planning a much bigger heist targeting ₹2 crore in the Karol Bagh area. Their timely arrest has effectively prevented this future crime. The final suspects were caught near Hindu Rao Hospital while trying to flee Delhi, bringing the total number of arrests to seven.
