Residents in several parts of Delhi should prepare for scheduled power outages this weekend as discoms undertake essential maintenance work. Power distribution companies have announced that various sectors will face temporary blackouts to facilitate line repairs and tree pruning. These activities are part of the annual preventive measures taken to ensure a stable power grid for the city during peak demand periods.

Affected Areas and Maintenance Schedule

The maintenance work is concentrated in South and West Delhi, where trees near power lines need pruning to prevent faults. Discoms like BSES Rajdhani and Tata Power-DDL have identified specific clusters for these outages. Residents are advised to plan their household chores according to the following schedule:

  • South Delhi: Vasant Kunj and Chhatarpur are the primary areas facing weekend shutdowns.
  • West Delhi: Najafgarh and surrounding colonies will see power cuts for line maintenance.
  • North Delhi: Siraspur, Prahladpur, Khera Kalan, and parts of Civil Lines.
  • Duration: Most outages are expected to last between 1 to 5 hours depending on the complexity of the work.

Official Statements and Earth Hour Update

Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood has stated that these outages are routine and do not indicate any shortage of electricity in the capital. The government has directed discoms to ensure that the public is informed well in advance about the exact timings. Additionally, the city recently observed an Earth Hour power cut on March 27 which saw participation across North, South, and East Delhi. Quick Response Teams have been deployed by BSES and Tata Power-DDL to handle any technical issues that might arise during the restoration process after the maintenance work is completed.
