Residents of Delhi NCR are feeling the heat earlier than usual this year, but there is some news of relief. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the weather is set to change this week. A fresh spell of rain is expected to hit the capital, which will bring the temperature down slightly. This comes as a welcome update for those worried about the sudden rise in day temperatures.
Will it rain in Delhi this week?
According to the latest forecast, the weather will start turning cloudy from February 17. The IMD has predicted light rain or drizzle specifically for February 18. This activity is attributed to an active Western Disturbance approaching the region.
While the rain might not be heavy, thundershowers are possible in some isolated pockets of the National Capital Region. The authorities suggest that this change will help in reducing the pollution levels as well, which are currently in the ‘poor’ category.
Impact on Temperature and Weekly Forecast
The incoming rain is expected to lower the maximum temperature by a small margin. Currently, the city is seeing highs of 28-29 degrees Celsius. This could dip to around 27-28 degrees Celsius during the rainy spell.
Skymet official Mahesh Palawat noted that the drop will be minor, around 1 to 2 degrees, and quite brief. The weather is likely to clear up from February 19 onwards. Once the clouds pass, the temperatures are expected to climb again. For the week of February 16-21, the minimum temperature will likely stay between 13 to 14 degrees Celsius.
