A shocking incident has come to light from East Delhi’s Yamunapar area where an elderly man lost his life over a small amount of money. The victim, identified as Banarsi Das from Bulandshahr, was strangled to death by a homeless couple in broad daylight. The police have arrested the husband and wife who committed the crime to rob the victim while he was counting cash on the roadside.
How did the crime take place?
Banarsi Das had come to Delhi three days prior with a horse booked for a wedding function. On Thursday afternoon, he was in the Pandu Shila area getting a horseshoe fitted. While waiting, he took out some currency notes to count them.
Devendra, a man living under the Shahdara flyover, noticed the elderly man with cash. He approached Banarsi Das from behind and strangled him. At the same time, his wife Pooja, who was holding their 15-month-old child, snatched the money from the victim’s hand. The attack happened so fast that people nearby could not save him.
What action has the police taken?
Locals immediately rushed the unconscious victim to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The Seelampur police registered a case of murder and launched a search for the accused.
The police have successfully arrested both Devendra and Pooja. The victim’s son, Mahesh, stated that his father likely had only one or two thousand rupees at the time of the incident. This tragedy has shocked the local residents as the crime was committed in public view.
