A scrap dealer in Faridabad named Khan Sahab has set a remarkable example of honesty by returning 100 grams of gold jewelry to a local resident. The jewelry, valued at approximately 15 lakh rupees, was accidentally sold by the family during their Diwali cleaning session in late 2025. The items remained in the scrap warehouse for nearly six months before being discovered and returned to the rightful owners on February 19, 2026.
How the jewelry reached the scrap warehouse
Ashok Sharma, a resident of Faridabad, had hidden the gold jewelry inside an old box placed within a scrap bag to keep it safe from potential theft. The family was preparing for a trip at the time and eventually forgot about the hidden valuables. During the routine cleaning for Diwali, the bag was sold to Khan Sahab as part of household junk. The family only realized the loss during Diwali prayers when they could not find the jewelry box at home.
The recovery and official handover process
After the family approached him, Khan Sahab began a thorough search of his warehouse. Despite the massive amount of scrap collected over months, he managed to locate the specific box containing the 10 tolas of gold. The return process was conducted in the presence of police officials to ensure transparency. ACP Jitesh Malhotra attended the meeting and officially recognized the scrap dealer for his integrity.
