The Greenfield Expressway connecting Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh to Manjhi in Bihar is nearing completion. National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials confirmed that 88 percent of the construction work is finished. This Ballia Link Expressway will significantly reduce the travel time between Ghazipur and Chhapra from the current 4 hours to just 1.5 hours. This route will provide a direct link for people traveling between Delhi, Lucknow, and major cities in Bihar like Patna and Buxar.
Project Deadline and Construction Status
According to NHAI Project Director Piyush Agarwal, the construction is moving ahead at a steady pace. While the initial target for completion was May 2026, some technical challenges have pushed the expected opening date to August 2026. The total project is divided into four packages with an estimated investment of about 5,300 to 5,500 crore rupees. A significant milestone was recently achieved with the start of the 205-meter long railway overbridge construction at Karimuddinpur.
Facilities and Regional Impact
This four-lane expressway is designed to support vehicle speeds up to 100 kilometers per hour. It will feature an Automatic Traffic Management System (ATMS), ambulance services, and route patrol vehicles for passenger safety. The highway connects 86 villages in Ghazipur, 99 in Ballia, and 4 villages in Bihar. Service roads have been provided to ensure that local rural roads remain accessible to the villagers along the route.
