A tragic road accident occurred on the Mohaddipur Overbridge in Gorakhpur on Wednesday night when a speeding Toyota Fortuner traveling on the wrong side hit several people. Akash Pandey, a 22-year-old third-year MBBS student at BRD Medical College, lost his life on the spot, while two other students sustained serious injuries. The collision was so severe that the victim was thrown into the bridge’s railing where his body remained trapped for nearly half an hour before being recovered by the police with the help of locals.
Details of the Investigation and Arrests
Following the incident, the police tracked the vehicle using CCTV footage from the surrounding area. The black Fortuner was identified and seized, and the driver, identified as Golden Sahni, was arrested on Thursday. SP City Abhinav Tyagi confirmed that the police have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the accused driver. The victim’s body was sent for post-mortem and is currently in the process of being handed over to his family members who reside in the Mehdawal area of Sant Kabir Nagar.
