A shocking incident took place in Gorakhpur on Sunday evening where a 22-year-old man was shot dead by his own friend. The incident occurred in Tenuhiya village under the Chiluatal police station area. The victim, identified as Arun Nishad, was called out of his house by the accused before being attacked. Following the murder, tension erupted in the village, leading to a clash between angry locals and the police.
How did the incident happen?
The crime occurred around 4 PM on February 15, 2026. According to reports, the main accused, Vishal, arrived at Arun’s house with his associates and asked him to come out. They went to a field near the Bharat Gas godown outside the village. Witnesses stated that after a brief argument, Vishal allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot Arun in the chest.
The sound of firing alerted nearby youths playing cricket, who ran towards the spot, but the attackers had already fled on two bikes. Arun collapsed on the ground and was immediately rushed to Gorakhpur Medical College. Despite efforts, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The brutal nature of the killing in broad daylight has left the family in deep shock.
Why did the villagers attack the police?
As the news of Arun’s death spread, the atmosphere in the village became very tense. Angry villagers expressed their outrage by blocking the Gorakhpur-Maharajganj road. When the police team arrived to manage the situation, the mob pelted stones at them, resulting in damage to police bikes.
Senior police officials, including SSP Dr. Kaustubh and SP (North) Gyanendra, reached the spot to bring the situation under control. The police had to use force to disperse the crowd and restore order. Authorities have deployed additional force in the area to prevent any further violence.

The police have registered a case based on the complaint filed by the victim’s father, Bhola Nishad. The FIR names Vishal and Devendra as the main accused, along with six other unidentified persons. Preliminary investigations suggest that an old enmity (purani ranjish) between the two friends led to this fatal attack.
