A shocking and tragic incident has been reported from Gurugram, where a 3-year-old girl was raped and murdered by her own neighbor. The police acted swiftly and arrested a 25-year-old man named Shivnath, who hails from Supaul, Bihar. The accused worked as a scrap handler and lived in the same building as the victim in the Mohammadpur Jharsa area. How did the police catch the accused so quickly?
The incident took place on the evening of February 19, 2026, when the child was playing outside her home. She went missing between 6:40 PM and 7:15 PM. Her worried parents searched for her and finally filed a missing person report at around 12:20 AM on Friday, February 20. Police teams immediately started scanning the CCTV cameras installed in the neighborhood.
The footage clearly showed Shivnath taking the girl away from the residential area. Based on this solid evidence, the police apprehended him shortly after. During questioning, he confessed to luring the child, committing the crime, and then strangling her to hide his identity. Following his confession, the police recovered the girl’s body around 2:00 AM from a shallow pit in an empty plot near Sector 37, which is about 4 km away from her home.

The Gurugram Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Sector 37 Police Station. The accused is facing severe charges under the new criminal laws and the POCSO Act. The officials have ensured that the case covers all aspects of the crime, from kidnapping to murder.
- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS): The police have invoked Section 103(1) for Murder, Section 137 for Kidnapping, and Section 238(a) for causing the disappearance of evidence.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar stated that forensic teams have collected necessary evidence from the burial site.
