What Was Removed During the Drive?

The operation was carried out for 8 to 9 hours daily using heavy machinery, including two JCBs and a poclain machine. The primary goal was to restore the road width to the mandated 60-66 feet, as the available space had shrunk to just 35-40 feet in many places. Officials successfully reclaimed about 35 feet of additional width across the stretch.

According to the official data, nearly 100 illegal structures were removed during this intensive campaign. The demolition included various types of properties that were obstructing the public right of way:

  • Multi-storey Buildings: 9 buildings ranging from 3 to 4 storeys were demolished.
  • Double-storey Structures: Approximately 30 such structures were removed.
  • Other Encroachments: Numerous boundary walls, extended shop fronts, and temporary kiosks were cleared.

Redevelopment Plan and Future Benefits

Following the successful clearance of the land, the Municipal Committee of Farrukhnagar has immediately announced a redevelopment plan. The project comes with an estimated budget of ₹7 crore and is expected to be completed within the next 10 months. The new design focuses on solving long-term issues for commuters.

The upgraded road will feature improved carriage lanes, proper footpaths, green verges, and a modern drainage system to prevent waterlogging. Officials noted that public cooperation was high during the drive, with many residents voluntarily dismantling their own encroachments using cutters before the administration arrived. This road serves as a vital link to the KMP Expressway, and its widening will provide significant relief to lakhs of commuters.
