Commuters in Gurugram and those traveling towards Sohna may soon find relief from daily traffic congestion. The Haryana government has officially stated that a proposal to extend metro rail connectivity from Gurugram Railway Station to Bhondsi is currently under consideration. Haryana Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi shared this significant update in the Assembly on Tuesday while answering a question raised by Sohna MLA Tejpal Tanwar regarding better transport facilities for the region.
Which areas will the new metro route cover?
The proposed metro corridor is planned to be 17.09 kilometers long. It aims to bridge the gap between Old Gurugram and the rapidly developing sectors along Sohna Road. According to the details shared in the Assembly, the route will connect several key locations that currently face heavy traffic pressure.
- Gurugram Railway Station: The starting point connecting old city residents.
- Sohna Chowk: A major intersection in the city.
- Rajiv Chowk: Planned interchange with the future RRTS network.
- Subhash Chowk: Interchange with the Millennium City Centre line.
- Bhondsi Village: The terminal point serving the southern parts of the city.
What is the current status and budget for the project?
The government is moving forward with the planning phase. On December 4, 2025, the agency M/s RITES was appointed as the consultant to design this corridor. They have already submitted an initial study report on January 23, 2026, outlining the scope and alignment options.
To support the rapid expansion of the metro network, the state government has earmarked ₹300 crore in the 2026-27 budget specifically for the Gurugram Metro Rail project. Officials believe that once this line is operational, it will significantly reduce the load on NH-48 and offer a smooth ride for daily office goers.
