The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released its preliminary report on February 11 regarding the India One Air plane crash that occurred last month. The incident took place on January 10, 2026, when a Cessna Caravan aircraft flying from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela faced technical issues. According to the report, the crash resulted in the death of one person and left three others injured.

How did the emergency landing happen?
The crew operating the flight noticed a warning for low engine oil pressure and saw a sudden reduction in engine power mid-flight. They immediately decided to make an emergency landing at the nearest safe spot. Initially, the pilots tried to reach a dry river bed, but they realized the aircraft did not have enough height to reach there safely.
They then directed the plane towards an alternate open field that looked clear of obstacles. However, during the final approach, the aircraft hit the top of a tree and a powerline located very close to it. The AAIB stated that the crew tried to avoid the powerline, but the plane had already lost too much height and impacted the ground causing significant damage.
What does the investigation report reveal?
The flight was carrying two pilots and four passengers at the time of the accident. While initial reports in January suggested that all occupants had survived with minor injuries, the official AAIB report has now confirmed one fatality. Investigators have successfully downloaded data from the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) to understand the exact sequence of events.
The Pratt & Whitney engine has been secured for a detailed technical examination to find out why the power loss occurred. International experts from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada are also assisting the Indian authorities in this probe. The final investigation report is expected to be released by January 2027.
