A serious controversy has emerged in the Jagatpuri area of East Delhi regarding the operation of an illegal hotel in a residential zone. A local youth, who filed a formal complaint against the establishment, has alleged that officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are not taking action. Instead, he claims that the authorities are pressuring him to accept money from the hotel owner to withdraw the case. This incident has angered the local community, leading to threats of a large-scale protest.

Allegations of Corruption and Pressure Tactics

The complainant approached the Shahdara South Zone administration to report unauthorized commercial activities that violate the Master Plan Delhi 2021. According to the youth, instead of sealing the property, MCD field officials summoned him for a meeting. He alleges that during this meeting, the hotel owner was present, and the officials explicitly suggested he take a payment to settle the matter. The complainant refused to accept the bribe and has now exposed the alleged nexus between the civic body staff and the illegal business owner.

Community Safety Concerns and Protest Warning

Residents of the colony are supporting the youth and have raised alarms about safety. They claim the hotel is a hub for wrongful activities and attracts suspicious outsiders to the neighborhood, disturbing the peace. The locals have stated that the commercialization of their residential street is unacceptable. The community has issued a formal warning to the administration, stating that if the hotel is not sealed and the accused officials are not investigated, they will launch a ‘Dharna’ outside the MCD office soon.
