When Will the Accused Appear in Court?
The court has set a strict timeline for the proceedings. While the daily hearings begin in March, specific instructions were given to other family members regarding their presence. Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and son Tejashwi Yadav attended the recent session through video conferencing. They requested to be excused from coming to court physically for one day due to medical and personal reasons.
The judge granted this relief for a single day but laid down a condition. These family members must appear in person between February 1 and February 25, 2026, to complete the formal framing of charges. They are required to give a one-day notice to the CBI before their visit. The court wants to ensure all legal formalities are completed before the daily trial starts.
What is the Case and Who is Involved?
The investigation agencies allege that land plots were taken at very low rates or as gifts in exchange for Group-D jobs in the Railways between 2004 and 2009. The court has noted serious observations against the accused, stating that the ministry was allegedly used like a personal property to exchange favors. Currently, 41 people are facing trial in this matter under charges of corruption, cheating, and conspiracy.
