delhibreakings mcd budget 2026 27 property tax waiver villages housing society rebate MCD Budget 2026-27: No Property Tax on 500 Sq Mtr Village Homes, 15% Rebate for Societies

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officially passed its budget for the financial year 2026-27 this Friday. Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh presided over the special meeting where these decisions were taken. This year’s budget focuses heavily on giving financial relief to residents in villages and housing societies. It is being called the largest budget in the history of the civic body, with a total expenditure plan of over ₹17,500 crore.

Who Gets the Property Tax Waiver?

Residents living in Delhi’s 49 rural villages have received a major benefit in this new budget. If you have an ancestral residential property up to 500 square meters in these areas, you do not have to pay any house tax. The relief extends to urbanized villages as well, where original residents owning homes up to 200 square meters will see their property tax waived completely.

Apart from villages, Group Housing Societies have a reason to cheer. The MCD has restarted the 15% rebate scheme which was stopped earlier. If societies pay their property tax on time, they will get this discount. Additionally, individual taxpayers who pay their full tax amount in a single installment during the first quarter will continue to receive a 15% rebate.

Major Announcements for Public Welfare and Employees

The budget has allocated a large amount, over ₹4,797 crore, just for sanitation. The main goal is to clear the Bhalswa and Okhla landfill sites by the end of 2026. For social welfare, the corporation will provide ₹21,000 as financial aid for the marriage of daughters of widows, single mothers, and differently-abled persons in each ward.

Employees of the corporation are also getting significant benefits. A new cashless medical treatment scheme is being introduced for both current staff and pensioners. The budget also ensures equal pay for Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) and Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBC). For the elected representatives, the meeting allowance for councillors has been hiked from ₹300 to ₹3,000 per meeting.
