Visiting Nehru Place is going to be much easier for Delhiites now. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena officially inaugurated a new multi-level car parking facility on February 16, 2026. This six-story building is situated near Modi Tower and was constructed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to solve the messy traffic jams often seen in this busy commercial hub. The project aims to provide a safe space for vehicles while clearing up the main roads.
What are the facilities and capacity of the new parking?
The new complex is built with a budget of approximately ₹62.4 crore and stands six stories tall, including a basement level. It is designed with modern needs in mind, ensuring that both cars and two-wheelers have ample space. The DDA completed this structure in a short timeframe to address the urgent parking crisis in the area.
- Car Capacity: Space for 660 cars, including 56 dedicated spots for persons with disabilities.
- Two-Wheeler Capacity: Parking available for 352 bikes and scooters.
- Smart Features: Automated ticketing system to reduce waiting time at entry and exit.
- Eco-Friendly: Includes Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points and rooftop solar panels.
How will this help the common public?
Nehru Place attracts lakhs of people every day, which historically led to haphazard parking on arterial roads and footpaths. This new facility is expected to clear these blockages, making traffic flow smoother for daily commuters. CM Rekha Gupta highlighted that parking is a major problem in Delhi, and agencies are working together to fix it. For safety and convenience, the building is equipped with CCTV surveillance, LED lighting, and ramps for barrier-free movement.
