Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, is getting ready to start its commercial flight operations very soon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport’s first phase today, March 28, 2026. This new airport is a big step for the Delhi-NCR region, aiming to make air travel easier and boost the local economy. It is expected to become a crucial aviation hub, easing the load on Indira Gandhi International Airport and offering advanced facilities to passengers.

Noida Airport’s Special Features For Passengers

The Noida International Airport is built with traveler comfort and efficiency in mind. It has advanced Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) that meet CAT III standards. This means flights can land safely even when visibility is as low as 50 meters, which is very helpful during North India’s winter fog. The airport is also designed for quick processing, allowing passengers to complete check-in and baggage drop in just 10 minutes using self-service kiosks and digital systems.

For even smoother travel, the airport is fully equipped with DigiYatra technology and biometric systems. Registered passengers can use their face as their ID and boarding pass from the moment they enter the airport until they board their flight, making the journey completely paperless. In its first phase, the airport will have one runway and one terminal, capable of handling 12 million passengers every year.

When Will Flights Start From Noida Airport?

The Noida International Airport is set to begin commercial flight operations very soon. Domestic and cargo flight services are expected to start between mid-April and May 2026. International flights will follow later, with operations expected to begin around September 2026. The airport has already received its Aerodrome Licence and Security Clearance on March 6, 2026, from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), respectively. Launch carriers like IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express are lined up to operate from this new hub.

The concession period for the airport started on October 1, 2021, and will run for 40 years. This project is overseen by Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), a government-backed entity, and operated by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
