How did the scam operate?
The accused operated a fraudulent firm under the name “SEA HIRE MARINE SERVICE COMPANY”. They gathered contact details of potential victims from various employment websites. Victims were asked to pay a processing fee ranging between ₹1 lakh and ₹1.2 lakh per person. The gang claimed this money was for registration and documentation charges. Police investigations revealed that nearly ₹1 crore was funneled through multiple bank accounts linked to the accused. Complaints were received from candidates across India, including Kerala, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh.
Who are the arrested individuals?
The police arrested four men identified as Rahul and Saif Warish from Uttar Pradesh, Prashant from Aligarh, and Vishal Sharma, a BCA student from Noida. During the raid, the team recovered three laptops, seven mobile phones, and registers containing candidate details.
An FIR has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act. The police are now tracing the money trail from the seized bank accounts and looking for other potential victims.
