Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to gift Delhi commuters a massive infrastructure upgrade on March 8, 2026. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta confirmed on Thursday that the PM will inaugurate two completed metro corridors and lay the foundation stone for three new lines. The main event is scheduled at DDA Utsav Sthal-3 in North Delhi. This move is expected to drastically cut travel time and ease traffic congestion across the capital.

Which New Metro Lines Will Open for Public?

The most awaited launch is the Pink Line Extension from Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur. This 12.3 km stretch is significant because it connects the missing link, effectively creating India’s first “Ring Metro”. Once operational, the Pink Line will form a complete circle of roughly 71.56 km around Delhi, allowing passengers to travel seamlessly without changing multiple lines.

Another key corridor opening is the Magenta Line Extension connecting Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park. This 9.92 km section adds 7 elevated stations to the network, extending the Magenta Line’s total reach to nearly 49 km. These additions are part of the government’s vision for a “Viksit Delhi” with better last-mile connectivity.

Foundation Stones for New Phase-V Corridors

Apart from the inaugurations, PM Modi will also kickstart the work for three new corridors under Phase-V (A). These projects aim to strengthen connectivity in South and Central Delhi. The total value of these upcoming and completed projects exceeds ₹18,300 crore, funded jointly by Central and State governments along with external loans.

  • Central Vista Corridor: Connecting Ramakrishna Ashram Marg to Indraprastha.
  • Golden Line Extension (A): From Aerocity to IGI Airport Terminal-1.
  • Golden Line Extension (B): Connecting Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.

Station Renaming and Facilities

To respect local sentiments and make navigation easier, the State Names Authority has approved name changes for two stations. The station formerly known as North Pitampura will be called Haiderpur Village, and the Pitampura station will now be known as Madhuban Chowk. Additionally, a new Electric Receiving Sub-Station at Park Street has been set up to ensure these new lines get uninterrupted power supply.
