The daily commute for women in Delhi is set to undergo a digital transformation starting next week. President Droupadi Murmu will officially launch the ‘Saheli Pink Smart Card’ on March 2, 2026, marking the end of the paper-based Pink Ticket system. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta confirmed the development on February 28, emphasizing that this initiative is designed to make travel smoother and more secure for female passengers across the capital.
Who can apply for this card and what are the documents needed?
The scheme is exclusively available for women and transgender individuals aged 12 years and above who reside in Delhi. To avail of this benefit, beneficiaries must possess a valid Delhi Aadhaar Card, which acts as the primary document for the Know Your Customer (KYC) process. The government has set up registration counters at District Magistrate offices, bus depots, and Common Service Centres to facilitate easy access for everyone.
What are the new rules for using the Smart Card?
- Digital Validation: Passengers must tap their card on the conductor’s Electronic Ticketing Machine (ETM) to validate their free travel.
- Dual Usage: While the card offers unlimited free travel on DTC and Cluster buses, it also works as a National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for paid journeys on the Delhi Metro.
- Cost: The card is provided free of cost to eligible applicants, though partner banks may charge a small processing fee.
- Launch Event: The President will also inaugurate the Free LPG Cylinder scheme and ‘Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’ during the same event.
