A domestic help was badly attacked by a stray dog on Wednesday morning in Vasant Kunj, South Delhi. The incident took place in DDA Flats, Sector-E, Pocket-1 when the woman was stepping out for work. The dog charged at her and bit her leg in multiple places despite her trying to run away. The entire attack was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area.
Residents Living in Fear
This is not the first time such an incident has happened in the society. According to reports, stray dogs have bitten 15 people in the month of January alone. RWA President Sanjeev Kumar Singh stated that residents are terrified and are forced to carry sticks when they leave their homes.
Children, the elderly, and delivery personnel are facing the most trouble due to the aggression of these dogs. RWA officials estimate that there are about 20 to 25 stray dogs in the area creating panic among the people living there.
Action by Authorities
The Resident Welfare Association (RWA) has lodged a formal complaint with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). They have also submitted the CCTV footage as proof of the aggressive behavior of the dogs. RWA Secretary Madhvendra Shukla mentioned that they have sent nearly 20 letters in the last 45 days regarding this issue.
Veterinary Officer Dr. S.K. Ranga acknowledged the complaint. He said that the area was checked before and dogs were sterilized, but promised to send a team again to investigate the matter properly.
