A frightening incident occurred in Greater Noida West’s Supertech Ecovillage 1 society on Monday evening, raising serious concerns about safety in high-rise buildings. A lift in Tower F-7 suddenly dropped from the 13th floor to the lower floors after a power outage. A 65-year-old resident, Rani Prasad, was inside the elevator with her two grandchildren at the time. While the children narrowly escaped injury, the elderly woman sustained multiple fractures in her leg due to the sudden jerk.
How did the lift accident happen in Supertech Ecovillage 1?
The accident took place around 5 PM on February 16, 2026. According to reports, the electricity supply went off, which caused the lift to plummet from the 13th floor. It eventually stopped abruptly near the seventh or eighth floor. Rani Prasad was accompanying her 11-year-old grandson and 7-year-old granddaughter during this terrifying ordeal. The impact was severe for the senior citizen, resulting in four fractures in her leg as confirmed by X-ray reports later. The family rushed her to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
Lack of facilities and maintenance concerns
Residents have expressed anger over the lack of immediate assistance following the crash. It was reported that not even a wheelchair was available at the site to transport the injured woman. She had to be supported manually to reach her apartment before being taken to the hospital. Supertech Limited is currently going through an insolvency process, which many residents believe is the reason for the poor maintenance standards in the society. Experts point out that out of 90,000 lifts in the district, only about 10 percent are properly registered, leaving residents at risk.
