Stellantis and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles have officially completed 20 years of their partnership in India. To mark this special milestone, both companies signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 10, 2026. This new agreement aims to expand their cooperation in manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain areas. The joint venture, known as Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL), currently operates a large manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon, Pune.

What are the key details of this partnership?
The collaboration between the two auto giants began in 2006 and has grown significantly over the years. The Ranjangaon facility acts as a central hub for both companies, producing vehicles as well as engines and transmissions. The plant has a strong workforce of nearly 5,000 employees and can produce up to 222,000 vehicles every year. Since the beginning of operations, the factory has manufactured over 1.37 million vehicles.
Which cars are manufactured at the Pune plant?
The joint venture produces several popular car models for both brands. This facility also serves as a key export hub, sending vehicles to international markets like Japan and South Africa. The current manufacturing portfolio includes:
- Stellantis: Jeep Compass, Meridian, Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler.
- Tata Motors: Nexon, Altroz, and Curvv.
- Components: Engines, transmissions, and traction motors are also made here.
What is the future plan under the new agreement?
With the signing of the new MoU, Tata Motors and Stellantis plan to deepen their relationship beyond just manufacturing. Reports suggest that Stellantis is considering the use of Tata Motors’ 1.5-litre petrol engine for its Jeep Compass and Meridian models. Additionally, both companies are looking at opportunities in electric vehicle technologies and advanced powertrain solutions. This move is expected to help both brands reduce costs and improve efficiency in the competitive Indian market.
