How did a water balloon trigger the violence?

The incident began around 10:00 PM on March 4, 2026. An 11-year-old girl was playing on her terrace and threw a water balloon intended for her father. It accidentally missed and splashed on a woman from a neighboring family who was passing by. Although the girl’s family offered immediate apologies, an argument broke out between the two sides.

Tarun Kumar, who was pursuing diplomas in Digital Marketing and Interior Design, was not present during this initial argument. However, about 30 minutes later, as he was returning home on his motorcycle, he was allegedly waylaid by a mob. His uncle, Tek Chand, stated that a group of 15–20 people attacked Tarun with iron rods, bricks, and stones, causing fatal injuries.

Police action and current situation in the area

DCP (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh is leading the investigation and confirmed that the case is registered under Section 103 (Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). As of March 7, the total number of individuals in custody has risen to nine. The officer noted that both families are originally from Rajasthan and have lived in the area for decades, with a history of minor disputes over local issues.

Following the death of the student, the locality witnessed tension, with family members and locals gathering outside the police station. On Friday, protests led to arson where two vehicles were torched. To maintain law and order, heavy police and paramilitary forces have been deployed, and strict measures are in place to control gatherings.
