Details of the tragic accident
The incident took place in the afternoon while construction work was underway. The victim, who is said to be a native of Madhya Pradesh, lost his balance while working at a significant height. The impact of the fall from the 17th floor was fatal, and he died at the scene before any medical help could be provided.
The Sohna City police station team arrived at the location shortly after the accident. They took custody of the body and shifted it to the mortuary at Sohna Civil Hospital. The police have stated that the post-mortem examination will be conducted once the family members of the deceased arrive.
Safety concerns and police action
This accident has once again raised questions about the safety measures provided to workers in high-rise projects. Authorities are currently investigating whether mandatory safety equipment like safety nets and harnesses were being used on the 17th floor as per the BOCW Act. The police are probing the case under sections related to negligence, and action may be taken against the contractor if lapses are found.
Worker safety has become a major issue in the region, as this is the third such accident in Sohna in just two months. While official compensation for this specific case has not been announced yet, recent similar incidents in other societies saw families receiving financial aid of around Rs 14-15 lakhs. The local administration is now under pressure to ensure stricter compliance with safety norms at construction sites.
