Delhi Police and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) have introduced new regulations at IGI Airport to stop illegal parking and harassment by touts. To monitor vehicle movement, 14 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed at key points. Booking is now strictly restricted to authorized zones through a pin-dispatch application to ensure passenger safety and reduce congestion.

Strict Action Against Illegal Touting and Safety Protocols

The IGI Airport Unit of Delhi Police has intensified its crackdown on unauthorized taxi operators. In 2024, authorities arrested 540 individuals and seized 254 vehicles involved in touting activities. These efforts are part of a proactive approach to protect the airport’s reputation and ensure travelers are not misled into using unauthorized services. Touting is a criminal offense under the Delhi Prevention of Touting and Malpractices against Tourist Act.

  • Increased Surveillance: 14 ANPR cameras track every vehicle entering and exiting the airport premises.
  • Safety Checks: Delhi Police implemented a biometric ID card program for taxi drivers to verify their backgrounds.
  • Digital Security: The Himmat Plus app allows passengers to scan QR codes in taxis to verify driver details instantly.
  • Quick Response: Motorcycle patrols and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) are deployed to handle suspicious activities.

New Booking Process and Official Fare Structure

The introduction of the PIN-dispatch system for ride-sharing services like Uber has significantly improved traffic flow. Instead of waiting for a specific car, passengers receive a six-digit PIN upon booking, which they share with the first available driver in the designated pickup zone. This system has reportedly reduced waiting times by 80 percent and helped manage the heavy volume of travelers efficiently.

Charge Type Rate/Details
Service Charge Rs. 15 per trip
Traffic Waiting Charge Rs. 1 per minute (if speed is less than 1km/10min)
Night Charges 25% extra (11:00 PM to 5:00 AM)
Baggage Charge Rs. 15 per piece (excluding small bags)
Driver Incentive 10% for return trips without passengers

Passengers are advised to use only official pre-paid taxi booths or authorized app-based zones. Official taxis are easily identifiable by their branding and licensing. All applicable taxes, including MCD tax and State Toll tax, must be paid by the passenger as per the established Delhi Traffic Police fare structure.
